Movements that have good symbols emphasize their substance.
I want to promote a symbol for September that will be born of the August recess with all the meanings that are blooming as we speak and write.
The birth flower of August is the Gladiola; with all that portends for a fight in September.
Perhaps we should all adopt the gladiola as our symbol of these historic oppositions to socialist big government that are happening now and will continue through September.
The Roman sword was the gladius. The Romans called the gladiola the sword lilly, owing to its petals having the shape of the gladius. This can be our banner, our ensign.
Take a red gladiola and throw it before a Congressperson. Take white ones to DC and throw before the fence at 1600. Wave them, carry them. Make them the tip of the spear.
August and its "dog days" are perhaps in 2009, the dog Cerberus with its many heads. Let us go, multi-headed and banish in September, the false promises and big lies to the oblivion where the river Styx flows.
Here's a symbol for Frau Pelosi that will rival Ms. Aquino's "yellow" and Mr. Mitterrand’s "red rose."
