Republicans and Democrats have the chance to vote for John McCain.
Some political men are cut from the crisp cloth of our common bond. If you are an American that lived during W.W. II, you have lived among and known such men. Eisenhower, Marshall, JFK, each different, each laced to the common American pulse.
In the post war years, into the 1960's and 70's, the children of the World War II Americans took up the crisp and starched uniforms and went into the danger and into the harm in places like the Formosa Straits, the Fulda Gap and the deck of the U.S.S. Forrestal.
Such was the life of the young John McCain. We tend to reflect on Sen. McCain as a POW but his trial by fire was earlier, in a moment of 'peace' when he like others throughout the world, wore our uniform and flew our flag.
Such a life he has had.
Now, we know him as a Senator. That vaunted club of civil ladies and gentleman that legislate and initiate both. Who does not know of John McCain, United States Senator?
What telling of modern American politics does not recount the name of the senior Senator from Arizona? Will his name not reside with the modern age and be etched in the pantheon of senate illuminati? Robert Taft, Everett Dirksen, Mike Mansfield, Russell Long, Wm Fulbright, John Stennis, Wm. Proxmire, call the roll, Barry Goldwater, Hugh Scott, John Glenn, Birch Bayh, Hubert Humphrey, ... Robert Dole, call the role, call John McCain.
Some known for isolation, some for pacifism, others for legislative initiative or procedural gamesmanship and John McCain, the citizen officer that came and stayed and sought to be heard.
So, toss off old ideas of orthodoxy and toss away ephemeral, foolhardy passions of the hour and run to be heard to cry out loud for one fine American that has never failed to understand duty and love of country.
Such an individual is a gift to us at this time.
Reward the Republic by voting for candidate McCain.
