One senses that if analysis of this crisis continues and post-mortems are done and redone, it'll turn into a Bob Dole moment; "all Democrat wars."
The hyper sensitive Mr. Frank and the cast of potential felons from Fannie Mae via the Democratic Party hierarchy seem to be anxious to cap the caps and do the deal so as to get the 900 pound thumb prints off the corpse ASAP.
If Sen. Reid and Rep. Frank are livid that Republicans are initiating talk of competing plans, it's more than their fear that Sen. McCain has derailed Sen. Obama's debate prep.
While some Republicans have profited from contributions that emanated from faltering Freddie and Fannie, the Democratic Party has been the intellectual tip of the spear for this crisis. Beyond being the philosophical vanguard of using home loans to grow equity equality in the populace, the Democrats have used the loan institutions to create asset wealth in their upper echelon cadres including elected officials.
The longer the Republicans attempt to streamline a proper rescue, the more risk for the Democrats that the citizens that are watching will identify the wretched culpability of those now screaming hysterically about deregulation and insertion of Presidential politics into the effort to forge consensus.
Citizen McCain has stolen more than Democrat thunder; he's taken fire and turned it into the welder’s white hot acetylene cutting torch. Sec. Paulson may just have to step aside and watch Democratic metal sear and melt now.
We can do better than a first blush rescue that demands big money and exculpates the guys yelling the loudest as the heat approaches.
